Officer-involved shooting on Cleveland's west side

An investigation is underway after an officer-involved shooting on Cleveland's west side.

It happened on Monday night around 9:30 p.m. in the 3200 block of W. 32nd Street.

The preliminary investigation reveals that a Second District one-man zone car noticed a stolen Dodge minivan on W. 32nd Street. The officer followed the stolen van on W. 32nd Street until a Second District Detective car responded to back up the one-man zone car.

As the officers followed the van, it turn into a driveway in the 3200 block of W. 32nd Street and stopped. The driver was ordered out of the vehicle, but did not comply and sat in the stolen minivan.

The uniformed officer and detectives exited their vehicles. The uniformed officer approached the suspect's van and the suspect suddenly put the vehicle in reverse, accelerated striking the officer's cruiser and nearly hitting the uniformed officer.

After hitting the zone car, the suspect sped forward, hitting a bush and a fence. As the suspect vehicle attempted to flee it got stuck on the fence. The suspect vehicle freed itself from the fence and suddenly headed towards one of the detectives. At this time, the detective fired his service weapon at the vehicle approximately four times.

The vehicle continue northbound on W. 32nd Street and stopped south of Clark Avenue. The suspect then exited the vehicle and fled on foot through the yards. After a short foot pursuit, the suspect was apprehended and placed under arrest by assisting officers and detectives.

Once the suspect was taken into custody he was found to have a gunshot wound to the torso. The suspect, whom has yet to be identified, was rushed to Metro. No word on a condition at this time.

An investigation is underway.
