Rain gone, but holiday travel might still cause a headache

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A winter storm that moved across the Eastern Seaboard impacted the Carolinas as many were headed out for the holiday.

In the mountains, a Winter Storm Warning was in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday night.

Snow accumulations of 2-4 inches will be widespread above 3500 feet, with up to 6 inches possible at the ridge tops.  Additionally, wind gusts of 50 mph could cause drifting snow and poor visibility.

Tony Kester is visiting Boone for Thanksgiving. He was out enjoying the winter weather Wednesday afternoon.

"Well, we are from South Carolina and it is much warmer down there. We come up here for Thanksgiving and we got family coming up so this is exciting. We don't get this back home so we make the best of it," Kester said.

In the Foothills, accumulations will be less, but strong, gusty winds will still make travel hazardous.

For the Piedmont, a quick shot of snow is possible during the late morning North of I-85, but is not expected to stick.
