(WMC-TV) - If you are traveling this holiday weekend, expect packed roadways and beefed up patrols on interstates.

This year, Tennessee leaders are making it their goal to have zero fatalities on state highways.

"There will be 128 troopers assigned to work I-40 every 20 miles," said Colonel Tracy Trott, Tennessee Highway Patrol. "From noon to midnight on Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday."

The saturation of patrols is not just happening in Tennessee. You will want to drive safely regardless of where you are headed.

"We coordinated with seven other state police and highway patrol agencies to mirror the same enforcement across the country for almost 2,500 miles from North Carolina to California," said Trott.

In addition to Tennessee, expect highway troopers along the I-40 corridor in Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Arizona, New Mexico, and California.

Troopers are expected to crack down on drivers who are speeding, driving drunk, distracted, or not wearing seat belts. It is all being done in an effort to keep you and your family safe, and drive down the number of fatalities this holiday weekend.
