LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A woman is facing multiple charges after she caused an accident on the Gene Snyder Freeway.

According to an arrest warrant, the accident happened November 2 when Cindy Balasco, 52, of Fairdale, was under the influence and driving with an expired license.

Witnesses told Louisville Metro Police that Balasco's car initially struck a guardrail and a vehicle parked in the emergency lane. The car then pulled across several lanes of traffic and caused a motorist to swerve before hitting another guardrail.

Police then said Balasco continued her journey on the Snyder and hit a car parked in the emergency lane. The woman and three children in the car, along with Balasco, who told police she had taken a Lortab, were treated by Metro EMS. Police said the woman driving the parked vehicle suffered serious head injuries.

Balasco was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, four counts of wanton endangerment, driving with an expired license, criminal mischief, assault and failure to maintain insurance.

After he arrest, Balasco was served with a criminal summons for unlawful transaction with a minor. The summons says that in August 2007, Balasco allowed a 15-year-old runaway boy to stay in her home.
