School employees indicted in Steubenville rape case

STEUBENVILLE, OH (WOIO) -

The investigation into the rape of a 16-year old girl by football players ended months ago, but the investigation of the cover up just ended -- and it places responsibility at the very highest level of leadership of Steubenville schools.

During a news conference on Monday morning, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced four new indictments in the Steubenville teen rape case.

The case began with whispers of a passed out girl being dragged around a home after a party and football players raping her. The whispers exploded into shouts after a video of what happened surfaced.

Two players were found guilty for their roles. In a football crazed town some defended them and we now know tried to make the rape go away.

A teacher who is an assistant wrestling coach and an elementary school principal was charged for not reporting the crime. An assistant football coach has been charged with providing alcohol to kids and lying. Most importantly the school superintendent was charged with felony's for the cover up that could put him away for up to seven years.

The football coach was not charged.

Attorney General Mike Dewine says this is about the community healing itself and hearing the grand jury's message.

"How do you hold the kids accountable if you don't hold the adults accountable," said Attorney General Mike Dewine.

The attorney general wouldn't expound on how the cover up happened or what was covered up but it is clear it happened with the clear approval of the superintendent.

After double overtime, the Toledo Walleye came out on top and beat the Indy 3-2 Thursday night for a sweep in the series. Even though the fish had a 3-0 lead in the first round playoff series, the toughest thing to do in hockey is to beat a desperate team on their home ice.  Halfway through a second overtime Kyle Bonis sets up Christian Hillbrich to score the game winning goal.  The Walleye now advances to the second round. They will play the winner of the Fort Wayne and ...
