(WMC-TV) - The Dyer County sheriff is investigating the deaths of five expensive and exotic snakes.

Kucera Hayden and her mother considered the boas and pythons they cared for as pets. The snakes, which were worth about $5,000, were all rescues.

"They were my babies, and I love them, and I enjoyed taking care of them and spending time with them," said Hayden.

Leslie Peevyhouse says their necks were broken.

"I noticed she wasn't moving. So I picked her up and her head flopped. I checked the rest and they were all dead, too," she said.

The snakes were in a shed in containers. See more photos of the snakes in this slideshow.

"We got two more ball pythons [that] belonged to a cancer patient," said Hayden.

Hayden says she became interested in snakes after an unfortunate accident.

"My best friend died years ago because she got bit by a copperhead," she said.

The family says whoever killed the snakes had to know they were in the shed. They speculate it was someone who had a vendetta.

"If you're mad at me, come to me, don't hurt my animals because of it," said Hayden.

The family notified the Dyer County Sheriff's Department. The sheriff said there are no suspects.
