Horry County's Most Wanted: Women sought for food stamp fraud

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The Horry County Sheriff's Office is after 46-year-old Ardnecia Lyrtreece Scott and 32-year-old Tameka Bontrice Robinson for allegedly receiving more than $10,000 in food stamps they weren't entitled to.

The Department of Social Services can't give details about their case until they are convicted, but they say most often people claim children that don't live with them, under-report their financial situation or they do what one person who wants to remain anonymous tells us he sees all the time.

"I've heard stories of people that will stand in front of the grocery store and offer you 100 dollars in grocery's for fifty dollars in cash," he said.

In the first six months of 2013 there were 311 cases of confirmed food stamp fraud in the state totaling nearly $912,285.06.

Right now, DSS is also looking into 2,646 cases totaling $4,766,598.80 in benefits they paid out in error. The department says these are people who didn't report timely and they are trying to get reimbursed.

They say extreme cases, like Scott and Robinson's, are turned over to the solicitors office. Ultimately taxpayers end up fitting the bill.

Scott's last known address is on Pelican Avenue in Myrtle Beach while Robinson's is on Airport Road in Conway. The sheriff's office says if convicted, they could face a fine of up to $5,000 or up to ten years in jail or both.
