TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Libbey High School graduate Stephanie Larae Morris returned home on Friday, and a warm reception of friends, family and fellow veterans greeted her at Toledo Express Airport.

Private First Class Morris was injured when a bomb exploded on her base in Afghanistan. Morris underwent several surgeries at a Maryland hospital before flying back to Toledo, and may have more operations in front of her.

Morris says she did not sign up to serve her country for the recognition, but appreciates the community's support.

"I told my mom don't do it because I don't like all that, but it's nice to know when you come home you do have folks that support you," said Morris.

Family members are glad to have Stephanie home, and also thankful for the support.

"Just a wonderful experience. It's good to see the community come out in support. You don't expect stuff like that," said Stephanie Watson, Morris's aunt.

Morris says despite her injury, she would love to serve her country again.

"I enjoy serving in the military. If I'm able to make a full recovery and return to duty then that's what I want to do," said PFC Morris.
