FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

More new construction is coming to the University of Findlay, this time to give the Oiler football and lacrosse teams a new home.

After getting approval from the city planning commission, the university has announced plans for a new 5,000-seat open air football and lacrosse stadium. The stadium will be built at the existing Kremer Memorial Practice Field on the north side of campus.

The school had to get approval from the city because the expansion will shut down a section of westbound Yourke Avenue at Cory Street permanently.

The University of Findlay's football team currently plays at Donell Stadium across town, but the administration says having an on-campus sports presence is important to the students.

"To me, what you really need are some good teachers and great students and you've got a great university," said University President Katherine Fell. "But to our students, a stadium matters. And to me, it matters because it matters to them."

Once the fundraising goal of $7-8 million is met, officials hope the lacrosse team will be able to play in the new stadium for the spring 2015 season.
