TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo Public Schools has received a SOAR Award from Battelle for Kids, which acknowledges the district's improved Value-Added results.

Value-Added is a statistical method that helps educators measure the impact schools and teachers have on students' academic progress rates from year to year. According to Battelle, TPS ranks #3 out of 109 Ohio districts. TPS is also ranked in the top 20 out of 800 Ohio school districts, in terms of student academic growth.

TPS officials credit the increase in student achievement directly to the district's highly-acclaimed transformation plan.

On Thursday morning, interim Superintendent Dr. Romules Durant held a press conference reviewing the first phase of the transformation plan. Additionally, he outlined the next steps, which include focusing on the district's Career Technology programs, expanding advanced placement classes, plus dual enrollment options for students.
