Mobile Meals seeking food donations for clients' pets

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Northwest Ohio organizations are joining together to feed hungry pets by collecting quality pet food during the month of November.

Mobile Meals of Toledo serves hundreds of people across the glass city but now the organization looking for donations so they can feed their clients' pets.

It was started by meals on wheels. And what they found was a lot of their senior clients were feeding their food to their pets rather than pet food," said Carolyn Fox of Mobile Meals of Toledo.

Fox says at least 10 percent of the organization's clients have pets

"Clients need to be eating the food we give them and their pets need to be eating pet food. And when they're sharing their food they're not getting the proper nutrition," said Fox.

Graber's Animal Hospital decided to join the campaign because of the potential health issues on both ends.

"These are their only companions a lot of times and we think it's very important that we take care of those pets when we can," said Amy Banks with the animal hospital.

Graber's is hoping to reach a goal of 3,600 pounds of food.
