Military men honor high school teen for courage, bravery

BATAVIA, OH (FOX19) -

Lucas Hannon, a senior at Clermont Northeastern High School, has wanted nothing more than to join the military.

Hannon knows what it takes to join and has been persistent in striving to achieve his dream. The only problem is, Hannon has Spina Bifida and is wheel-chair bound. Due to his disability, Hannon was unable to join.

On Tuesday, US Army Staff Sergeant Timothy Rhodes was able to make Hannon's dream come true. As Hannon stood in front of his teachers and peers in his high school's gymnasium, Rhodes presented Hannon with a special gift.

Hannon was given a plaque and flag for his bravery and courage that he exemplifies each day as he continues to be positive and inspiring despite his disability.

"This just means everything," explains Hannon. "I have always wanted to be special to someone. To feel like I meant something to the world."

Hannon says he comes from a long line of military members in his family.
