Two shot in Springfield

A double shooting near the "X" in Springfield's Forest Park left people running for cover Tuesday night, including 17 year old Joshua Pachecl and his friend who were inside a Dunkin Donuts moments before two men came in bleeding from gunshot wounds.

"We were in we were walking down the street we heard the gunshots and then there was people running. We didn't know who it was, I was trying not to get shot, I don't want to be anywhere near that, a bullet in the chest is not what I had planned tonight," Pachecl said.

Police say the two men shot appear to be suffering from non-life threatening injuries, but so far they're not cooperating with police.

Multiple officers were investigating a small silver car outside the Dunkin Donuts at the corner of Dickinson and Hollywood streets, believed to be the one the two men were in when they were shot.

Nearby, detectives scoured the area on Commonwealth Avenue near Hollywood Street for the shell casings where the shooting took place.

The area in Forest Park known as the "X" has been targeted by police in recent months, with the department even deploying a special task force called the BADGE unit to tackle drug and gang activity and reach out to the community.

But no matter how high the police presence, Pachecl says hearing gunshots so close by was a terrifying way to learn the lesson to stay inside at night.

"Right now I'm just thinking it could've been us that got shot," he said.

Police are still investigating the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
