Berea, OH (WOIO) - The Browns came out of the bye week with a renewed optimism for the stretch run, but they'll have to make a playoff push without one of their outside linebackers. Quentin Groves, who came over in the offseason from the Arizona Cardinals, needs ankle surgery and will be placed on season-ending injured reserve.
"Quentin's a valuable part of our team and a valuable part of the leadership on our team", head coach Rob Chudzinski said on Monday. "Obviously, we're disappointed in (the loss), but it's the best thing right now to get that fixed and corrected. We'll have to have other guys step up, whether it's on special teams or whether it's on defense, and the outside 'backer rotation and some of the things he's doing from that standpoint."
Groves has battle ankle issues since Week 2, but still managed to rack up his second sack of the season in the win over the Baltimore Ravens on November 3rd.
The Browns (4-5) are in contention in the AFC North for the first time in six years, just a game and a half behind the Bengals following Cincinnati's loss to Baltimore on Sunday.
The Browns head to Cincinnati to play the Bengals on Sunday.
