No solution for dangerous intersection in Perrysburg Twp

PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

PerrysburgTownship officials are calling the intersection of Eckel Junction Road and 199one of the most dangerous places in the township, but there's nothing anyonecan do about it.

Neighborssay there have been more accidents at that intersection than they can count.

"It'sincredibly busy, especially at rush hour," said Stacey Jackson.

Trafficbacks up for blocks every day at the intersection.

"It'sdangerous because a lot of people don't like waiting, and so there's lots ofspeeding out and coming quick as people are trying to get out there, so I thinka stop light would be good there," Jackson said.

Butthe problem is officials say there isn't enough traffic to warrant installing alight. They say one solution is to extend Carronade Drive until it meetsScheider Road, but that brings another set of challenges.

"Ifyou extend Carronade, that means that traffic comes through our neighborhood,"said resident Dennis Seymour.

Itwould cost millions of dollars to install a new road, and township officialssay they don't have that money.

"Themajority of people in the area know when the traffic is bad, and I avoid it,"Seymour said.

Townshipofficials say it's safest to avoid the area if you can until a permanentsolution can be afforded.
