Man shot in back outside north Toledo elementary school

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo Police say a man was found shot outside of a Toledo elementary school Thursday evening.

Matthew Roehrig, of Defiance, was found outside of Riverside Elementary on Chicago Street just before 6 p.m. Thursday, according to police.

Police say Roehrig stated that he parked his vehicle near the school and approached a man to ask for directions. He noticed the man pull a pistol from his waistband, so Roehrig turned to run and says he was shot in the back.

Roehrig's injuries are serious, but police say they are not life-threatening t this time.
