ARCADIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Wednesday was a day of remembrance for two families.

Friends and family of Misty Keckler gathered with those of Heather Jackson and her two children. Keckler was found strangled to death in her Fostoria home in April of 1997. Curtis Clinton was later convicted of her death.

On Monday, Clinton was convicted of strangling and killing Jackson and her children.

"I named my daughter after [Misty], so I think about it quite often," said Amanda Lovejoy, a childhood friend of Keckler's.

A ceremony was held in their honor Wednesday at the Arcadia Cemetery. Their families celebrated the fact that justice has been served.

"He shouldn't have been out," said Erica Lovejoy, Amanda's sister. "[Clinton] should have been convicted of Misty's murder and been in jail, and then they wouldn't have had to suffer like we have."

Keckler's friends say while Clinton only served 13 years in jail for her death, it brings them a sense of closure knowing he's now facing the death penalty.

Dozens of balloons were released at the spot where Keckler's ashes are buried with her mother, who died of a heart condition. Her father, Robert Keckler, said he sent the balloons up to heaven for both his daughter and the Jackson family, whose trial he followed closely over the last few weeks.

"I was there every day, and I will be there until it is over," he said.

Clinton will be sentenced Nov. 12.
