MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Toledo Area Humane Society is packed full of cats and kittens.

Usually by November, most kittens have found a home, but the mild summer has brought a steady flow of them into their care. On top of an increase in homeowners giving up their adult cats.

The executive director says this is the most packed the Toledo Humane Society has been in years. They are asking for help from people able to foster kittens and cats, even just for a few weeks.

Currently, they have been tapping out as many resources as possible, asking their regular foster homes to take on more work.

"Most of them, they foster so many kittens during the summer," said Executive Director Gary Willoughby. "We may have 250 to 300 kittens in foster care over the summer, usually by this time of the year, they are kind of done fostering for four or five months straight, and they are ready for a break, and we have has to ask fosters to foster a little bit later in the year, and also new people that maybe haven't fostered before. Even adult cats that are ready to go up for adoption, we just don't physically have space for them right now."

If you are interested in fostering a kitten or cat, you can call them 419-891-0705 and dial extension 305, or email
