'People I'm going to kill' - Adrian student could face charges after hit list found at school

ADRIAN, MI (Toledo News Now) -

An Adrian Middle School student could be facing charges after police say he or she made a hit list, but at least one parent says the district is not doing enough to protect students.

Police say the list, titled "People I'm going to kill" followed by 9 student names, was found by a janitor at Adrian's fifth and sixth grade building.

Adrian Superintendent Del Cochran says the district was able to identify the student using handwriting samples. The district has a policy to suspend responsible students after a threat until a psychological evaluation can be completed. Cochran says the student who made the list has been suspended.

Mandy Toner says her son's name was on the list, and she is not satisfied with the steps the district has taken to protect him.

"You can't take these things lightly," said Toner. "It's terrifying because as a parent you want to protect your child and at this point we are not able to."

Toner says she wants the name of the student who made the list to be released so a personal protection order can be filed against the child.

"I would feel much safer also if I knew that she was not coming back this year at least so that our son and the children on the list and everyone in the entire school can feel safe when they go in there," said Toner.

Adrian Police say all of the information in the case has been turned over to the county prosecutor for review.
