Driver in court after deadly Colerain Twp. crash

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

The driver in a high speed crash that killed two teenage passengers in September made his initial appearance in court Thursday.

Kyle Stein, 18, was indicted on four counts of aggravated vehicular homicide in the deaths of 16-year-old Rachel McGrath and 19-year-old Eric Moormann.

The crash happened in the 7500 block of Sheed Road on September 13. According to police, an Audi A6 was headed eastbound at a high speed. According to HAmilton County Prosecutor Joseph Deters, Stein was trying to catch up to a new model Audi R-8 to get a better look at the expensive vehicle.

He reportedly lost control along a curvy portion of Sheed Road, causing his car to drive off the right side and hit a parked Ford Titanium. The impact of the crash caused the Ford to rollover on its top.

Authorities said McGrath was in the front passenger seat and pronounced dead at the scene. Moormann was in the backseat and taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

Deters said Stein tested positive for alcohol and marijuana with a Blood Alcohol Level of .113, which is in excess of the .02 limit for a driver under the age of 21.

If convicted of all charges, Stein faces the possibility of 16 years in prison and a lifetime suspension of his driver's license.
