Genoa police crackdown on nuisance properties

GENOA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The chief of police in Genoa is cracking down on property owners with junk vehicles on their property.

The cars are considered an eyesore, especially in a small village like Genoa. That's why Chief Bob Bratton is making sure residents know they will not be tolerated on properties.

The chief has been working on the issue for months. He says several properties in the village have tall weeds, trash or old vehicles in their yard. He says he's sent letter to the owners, and the goal is to get the sites cleaned up without going through legal channels.

"It's just not fair to the other people that keep things up," Bratton said. "Since I've sent the letter out, I've had about four people call, and I will be meeting with those people. We're just looking for some progress. That's what we're after."

Property owners who have been issued letters have until Nov. 12 to show some progress with their yards. Bratton says if the warnings go unanswered, officers will issue citations and property owners may face misdemeanor charges.
