(WMC-TV) - Three Mid-South communities will now have access to high-speed Internet in their home after receiving service from C-Spire Wireless.

Horn Lake, Corinth and Batesville are among nine cities that will receive the service from C-Spire Wireless after community-driven efforts.

People in Horn Lake have been passing around fliers trying to be chosen as the first city in Mississippi for a new high-speed Internet service. Campaigners found out Monday Horn Lake is a finalist. Now it is a race to see which town is hooked up first.

There was a YouTube video, a Twitter campaign, and bright orange fliers. Keri Neece is among several people in Horn Lake that say the lack of available and reliable high-speed Internet makes it tough to do work.

"There was a competition going on, I decided that I was going to get involved and make this happen," she said. "I can't afford time down, and if I am down for too long I have to go 26 miles into work."

High-speed Internet coverage gaps have been reported all over DeSoto County. City and county leaders jumped at the competition to be chosen for C-Spire's new service that is about 100 times faster than average Internet speeds.

All of the cities selected will eventually receive the high-speed service, but now the race is on to see which city gets hooked up first by pre-registering potential customers.

"The first city that can get some of their fiber hoods to meet that number of citizens will have it, and we want Horn Lake to be number one," said Horn Lake Mayor Allen Latimer.

Neece says she will continue to campaign to spread the word in hopes of winning the competition and having high speeds sometime in 2014.

"The worst thing is that four of us in this neighborhood work from home so this is our livelihood," said Neece.

The citizens of those three towns are being asked to pre-register to win. If you live in Horn Lake, you can sign up here.
