Napoleon finds a way to keep city golf course open

NAPOLEON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The city of Napoleon had considered closing a city run golf course to save money, but after an outpouring of support from the public the course will stay open.

"It's very important. It gives people things to do," said Napoleon resident Joe Turski. "It keeps businesses going, something like this the community does need."

The city's parks and recreation department eliminated two permanent and two seasonal part time jobs at the course to save money. Greens fees were also decreased to attract more business.

The department also implemented user fees for other programs, which raised about $20,000.

Leaders say the changes have led to a balanced budget and a bright future for the course.
