Fire destroys vacant Portage home

PORTAGE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Fire destroyed an unoccupied home in the village of Portage Monday morning.

Deputies with the Wood County Sheriff's Department say three volunteer fire departments surrounding the Portage, Ohio area were on-scene working to put out a fully involved fire on County Home Road near Kramer Road.

Deputies say no one was inside the home.

The property owner said the people living inside the house moved out in early October at his request so he could make repairs to the roof. He also said he thinks the fire is suspicious.

State fire marshal will investigate the cause of the fire. Crews are not yet certain how the blaze started.
