TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Changescould be on the way for the University of Toledo's smoking policy. Studentleaders say they plan to meet with university officials to propose a completeban.

Currently,UT has designated smoking areas designed to keep the smoke contained. Accordingto the UT student government, more than half of the students want to see theareas gone, and smoking banned completely.

"Nota lot of people like it," said Maddisen Rodriguez, a student. "I hear a lot ofstudents complain about it."

About60 percent of students are in favor of the ban, according to a recent survey. But while some students are in favor, others say a ban could do more harm thangood.

"Ithink they shouldn't, because people are going to do it anyway's and thedesignated smoking areas keep it contained and clean," said Ashlee Beeching. "Ifwe don't have it, people are still going to do it anyway's and just throwcigarette butts everywhere."

"Iunderstand people don't like it and they don't like the smell and stuff likethat, and I respect it, but people are going to smoke," added Shardy Smith.

Otherssay they think the ban would help.

"Idon't know if it would completely stop it, but I know it would cut it down,"said Rodriguez.

Thestudent government president says they're taking the survey results andlegislation for a smoking ban to UT trustees next Tuesday.
