Community, businesses help Humane Society repair roof

LENAWEE COUNTY, MI (Toledo News Now) -

The community is coming together in Lenawee County to support the local Humane Society.

The roof there was old and leaked any time it rained, so leaders at the Humane Society turned to the community for help paying for repairs. They say donations came in, but it wasn't enough to cover the cost until two local businesses stepped in.

Brown Roofing and Sons offered free labor for the repairs, and Williams Insulation offered to cover the remaining cost of materials.

"The Humane Society is solely based on donations from the public, so any money that we get comes from the public, and to use that money for anything other than the animals is really hard for us," said Marcie Cornell, executive director of the Lenawee County Humane Society.

Cornell says she's happy the community supports not only the animals under their roof, but the organization as a whole.
