More living options coming to downtown Adrian

ADRIAN, MI (Toledo News Now) -

Abig push is underway to provide more housing opportunities in downtown Adrian.

Severalbuildings could see some new life as downtown development leaders work to turnempty space into new apartments.

DowntownDevelopment Authority Director Chris Miller says living space and newbusinesses go hand in hand.

"Aswe can add people to downtown who live here, who then will patronize thebusinesses…it then builds a stronger case when we're looking at bringing newbusinesses in," Miller said.

That'swhy he's working with the Michigan State Housing Development Authority andlocal building owners to get federal dollars that can help them turn vacantupper floors into homes.

"There'sa lot of good things happening," said Joni Warner, who works in Adrian. "There'sbeen lots of businesses moving downtown."

Thosewho live and work in the area say they think lots of people would want to takeadvantage of the new apartments.

"There'sdefinitely a need, and I think a variety, too," Warner said. "I think collegestudents, but I think also people that are downsizing and looking to come backdowntown."

Millersays the goal is to have apartments available in 6-9 months.
