TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - A new off-campus student housing center is being planned at Dorr and Westwood, and on Tuesday, Toledo City Council will consider measures to make that happen.
Council will consider approving a zoning change and vacating Kury Avenue for the project. In June, the Cleveland-based NGP Group filed plans to build an off-campus housing complex with 200 units and 596 beds.
Councilman Tyrone Riley says concerns raised by neighbors have been addressed, and he believes the project will improve safety in the area.
"When a liquor store was here it appeared to be a magnet for criminal activity," Riley said. "Now that student housing is going to go up and to be developed, we've received assurances from the developer and the property owner safety will be the number one priority."
Plans for the 11-acre site have been reviewed by the Toledo Plan Commission.
