UT surveys students on potential smoking ban

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A survey is under way at the University of Toledo, asking students how they feel about the current smoking policy.

Currently, UT has designated smoking areas around campus.

The student government is conducting a survey asking those who take classes on campus, if they think smoking should be banned completely. If students are in favor of a ban, student government leaders say they will draft legislation to present to university officials.

Many students are happy to have the chance to voice their opinions.

"I think it's a great idea to ask students how they feel about something. There's a lot of students on campus who will be impacted by this," said Randi Wild. "I personally don't smoke, but I know a lot of people do and I know a lot of them. And their locations that they have already for smoking...people don't really use them."

The survey runs until next week.

We'll continue to follow this story and let you know how students voted.

Those pictures could then help police if they had to respond to an active shooter or other emergency. Attorney General Mike DeWine said that mandated school safety plans are required to include floor plans, and aerial pictures are an optional supplement. The BCI said that the pictures would be free and accessed through a law enforcement database. Copy...More >>
