Delta Air Lines to cut 126 positions, more MEM flights

(WMC-TV) – Delta Air Lines announced to its employees Tuesday that it will cut more Memphis flights and reduce its staff by at least 126 positions.

In a memo sent to Delta employees, the airline said the winter Memphis schedule "calls for a reduction to more than 40 peak-day departures effective December 3."

In addition, 126 ACS and Cargo positions will be cut and In-Flight Service will close its Memphis flight attendant base.

In the memo, Delta made sure to tell employees that positions are still available within the company at other locations. And a voluntary retirement package will be offered to eligible employees.

Here is an excerpt of the memo:

"We know this is tough to hear, especially only after 60 days of the reduced fall schedule. Unfortunately, Delta continues to see extremely poor revenue performance in the current schedule and in future bookings."

Employees eligible for the retirement package and/or relocation will be provided with a packet detailing their options.

Again, the schedule changes will go into effect on December 3.
