US soldier accused of murder in court Nov. 18

Brian James Madesa Gogue Brian James Madesa Gogue
LENAWEE COUNTY, MI (Toledo News Now) -

The US soldier accused of strangling one man and stabbing another while home on leave appeared in the courtroom on Monday.

The pretrial hearing for 31-year-old Brian James Madesa Gogue was scheduled for Monday in Lenawee County, but Gogue's attorney asked that the hearing be pushed back until Nov. 18.

Michigan State Police say Gogue is responsible for strangling and killing 20-year-old Joel Krutsch, and stabbing an 18-year-old man in a Raisin Township mobile home on October 5. Gogue now faces murder, assault and weapons charges.

Krutsch's family and friends are eager to see the case closed.

"[It's] nerve wracking, irritating and unfair, honestly, to think that that man is still alive and just hanging out while my brother is dead," said Amber Lindeman, Krutsch's sister.

Family and friends say Krutsch was one of the most caring people they knew, and they want to see Gogue found guilty and given the maximum sentence.

"We really need to make sure that the murderer is locked up and not able to hurt anyone else," said Megan Linski, Krutsch's friend. "There are a lot of people who are hurting really bad right now. They have no idea why this had to happen and why we had to lose him."

Officials have not released a possible motive, and are continuing their investigation.

Gogue entered a not guilty plea.
