Police identify suspects in Fremont car break-ins

FREMONT, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Authorities have identified suspects in more than 100 car break-ins in Fremont and other areas of Sandusky County.

The Sandusky County Sheriff's Office said six juveniles and two adults have been working in three different groups, where they've been breaking into unlocked cars to steal cell phones, GPS devices, tablets and money. Stolen items are then sold to pawn shops.

"What we're being told is they're using it to supply drug habits," said Detective Captain Sean O'Connell. "In this particular case, it's pills and painkillers and keeping for fun money."

O'Connell is asking that the suspects come forward to possibly discuss a plea deal. He also insists that all of the break-ins could have been prevented.

"Once your car is parked in a permanent basis for the evening, lock it up," he said.
