TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

They are partying in west Toledo on Saturday to celebrate the completion of a major road improvement project.

The orange barrels are gone, and so is the construction that was rebuilding Secor Road between Central Avenue and Monroe Street. To celebrate, a big party is taking place, focusing on the area businesses that were affected during the project. The $5 million project replaced a water main line and rebuilt that portion of Secor from the ground up.

During the construction period, Kathy Nagypaul opened her Creative Cupcakes store on Secor.

"It was pretty touchy for a while, but it's getting better," said Nagypaul, who feels better now that all lanes of traffic have reopened.

Nagypaul will be taking part in the big block party to celebrate the finished work, plus encourage people to visit businesses around the Westgate Shopping Center.

"I love the location. Got plenty of traffic out here. Just hoping more business comes this way," said Nagypaul.

While the construction did not stop Rose Burgess from shopping, she's happy it's done and a party will mark the occasion.

"I think that's a real good idea. Everybody's glad it's finished and they can do more shopping," said Burgess.

District 5 Councilman Tom Waniewski says the project caused some short-term pain, but it was necessary work to help the area in the long run.

"This is an opportunity to showcase the fact it's done. It was done two to three months ahead of time, and the fact the businesses are working together," said Waniewski.

The party is scheduled for Saturday from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. at the parking lot next to Elder-Beerman.
