New outdoor classroom will bring learning to life in Adrian

ADRIAN, MI (Toledo News Now) -

Adonation is allowing one Adrian school to take learning outside the traditionalclassroom.

LincolnElementary School will soon have a special classroom behind the school. Theoutdoor space will be an area teachers can use for certain lessons.

"Wewill have an actual learning space," explained Principal Sam Skeels. "We willhave benches and a teaching podium…We will have a greenhouse, a pond fordifferent habitats."

Theoutdoor classroom is something the school has been wanting for years, but they'vebeen able to speed the process along thanks to a $30,000 donation from the manwhose family used to own the land where the school is located.

"Aman who, at 95, has been nice enough and really committed enough to build arelationship with us that will last far beyond his lifetime and impact teachersand students for years to come," Skeels said.

Teachersat Lincoln say they're excited about how the space will allow students to taketheir learning to the next level.

"Theoutdoor classroom will provide an alternative learning location for thestudents to present that knowledge, or act on that knowledge, or perform thatknowledge, or reflect on that new knowledge," said Jill Roberts, a teacher.

Skeelssays the area should be ready to use by spring.
