Findlay getting pricey new holiday decorations

FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The holiday season is right around the corner, and Findlay is getting a new holiday look this year.

Brand new decorations will go up soon on the streets of downtown Findlay, but the new lights come with a hefty price tag.

The Downtown Findlay Improvement District (DFID) plans to decorate 50 of the 75 light poles with new lights and ribbons this year – but it will cost nearly $600 per pole.

City council agreed to chip in more than $18,000 toward the cost on Tuesday. Leaders say while the lights may seem expensive, they come with a 10-year guarantee, and the process of putting them up will be a lot smoother.

"We've been doing them in the trees all up and down Main Street," said John LaRiche, a member of the DFID. "The problem was we had short trees, tall trees, fat trees, skinny trees, and there really wasn't anything uniform going up and down Main Street, so we decided to change the way we're doing this. We're going to put the lights on the poles, so we can plug right into the light poles so there's no extension cords need or anything like that."

The cost of the new decorations includes installation, maintenance and disassembly at the end of the season.
