(WMC-TV) - For the first time at Lewisburg Middle School in Olive Branch, a student with special needs was chosen by classmates to be on the homecoming court.

Morgan Tibbens, 14, is a 7th grader with Down syndrome, who was selected by her peers to be one of three homecoming maids.

"My dad's going to walk me out," she said.

Morgan does not let anything get in the way of making friends like Reagan Tweedy.

"I just thought that she deserved it more than anybody else, and I asked [her brother] if it'd be OK if I told everybody to vote for her," said Tweedy.

Morgan's brother, Cameron, is two years younger. Although, he is in the same grade as his sister where he plays on the football team.

He asked all of his teammates to vote for his sister. Now she is one of three maids for this year's court, and he is one proud brother.

"She's never really mad. She's always happy. She looks at the bright side of everything, and she's never down," said Cameron.

Morgan's friends say she deserves it, because of her positive outlook on life. She even enters beauty pageants and cheers on a local special needs squad.

"She's beautiful and she enters pageants and she is not afraid," said Morgan's friend, Autumn Gentry.

Seventh graders are not named kings or queens in middle school, but Morgan already feels like one thanks to the love from her friends.

"I think I look like a beauty queen," said Morgan.

The homecoming celebrations continue this week at the middle school before the big game this weekend.

The City of Toledo is apologizing to a man after they billed him for cutting grass on public property near his home.  Anthony Davis and his wife have lived in their home in south Toledo since 1995. The grass in the cul-de-sac outside their home is often overgrown. Davis normally does not mind cutting it himself.  "Just so that we don't look like we're living in some type of jungle or something," Davis said. However, recently the grass grew up to his knees.
