BGSU racist tweeter ID'd, no charges to be filed

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Bowling Green State University has figured out who was responsible for the racially-charged tweets from earlier this week, but no charges have been filed.

The tweets surfaced earlier this week. One said "@BSU_BGSU. In case you didn't know, the Black Student Union is a separatist white hating group. Our goal is to kill all whites." A second tweet said "Fighting the white man with all my friends @BSU #BlackPride #EmbraceTheHate."

Following investigation on behalf of police and the office of student conduct, the university found that the person behind the tweets is not a BGSU student. Also, although offensive, his tweets were not against the law. After BGSU Police Chief Monica Moll met with the city prosecutor, they determined the tweets were protected under freedom of speech. As a result, no charges have been filed.

Since the case was determined not criminal, the chief handed over the investigation to the office of student conduct to finish on a code of conduct violation. However, that investigation found that the person responsible was not a student.

This is the second time this year racist tweets have targeted BGSU.
