2 Sylvania natives play for Walleye this year

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Tyler Pilmore and Alden Hirschfeld know firsthand what hockey means to the city of Toledo.

"I think everyone is excited to get to see some games and to come out and support the team," said 25-year-old Hirschfeld.

"It's a hard-working city," his teammate Pilmore said. "They always have support for any professional team."

When they were growing up in Sylvania, the pro team both of them loved was the Toledo Storm. Now it's the Walleye, and both guys admit they never thought they'd be able to experience what it's like to suit up for a squad in their own backyard.

"[Being] able to do what you love and do it in your home town, it's a pretty cool experience," said Hirschfeld

What makes it even cooler is that they're doing it together. Pilmore played a little bit last year for the Walleye at the end of the season. This year, he's got a fellow Northview Wildcat at his side.

"I've skated with Alden and (fellow Walleye) Kyle Rogers all summer," said Pilmore. "Both have been tremendous with their support and they're going to be huge this year."

Playing for Toledo? Heck, these guys are Toledo!
