5 cases of assault reported at Napoleon Schools

NAPOLEON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

NapoleonPolice are investigating several reports of assault in the schools.

AmberWilhelm is one of several Napoleon parents who say their child has beenphysically bullied.

"Hewas being kicked as he was coming off the bus. Those same students have punchedhim in the head, kicked him in the head, thrown scooters at him," she said abouther son. "It makes me want to pull him out of school."

Wilhelmtook her child to the hospital and filed a police report about the incident.

Policesay there have been four assault complaints reported to them from the middleschool since the start of this school year, and one from the high school. Theysay they're investigating one case where a 14-year-old boy is accused ofbeating a classmate with his belt at school and then posting a video of it tosocial media.

That14-year-old could face assault charges.

"Assoon as it starts to become physical, that truly is assault," said NapoleonSuperintendent Dr. Stephen Fogo. "And that needs to be a matter dealt with bythe police."

Fogosays they have an anti-bullying program in place, but says he's also working ona way to increase communication with parents.

"Ifyou don't feel like your child is being addressed correctly, or an issue isbeing taken care of, please call me and I assure you it will be taken care of,"he said.

ButWilhelm says there's only so much the school district can do.

"It'salso the parents. We all have to come to an agreement and teach our kidsbetter, not to fight, not to bully," she said.
