Oregon school fights bullying for Bullying Awareness Month

OREGON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

October is Bullying Awareness Month, and one local district has several programs to raise awareness and tackle the issue.

On the second week of school at Fassett Junior High in Oregon, a program was started called Challenge Day. The program was implemented after the reconfiguration of Eisenhower and Fassett schools.

The schools used to be rivals, with the seventh and eighth grades combine, there is no more competition. The Challenge Day program informs students and staff of bullying and the various forms it may take.

There are also signs posted around the school, reminding students that the school is bully-free.

"It is very important to teach kids that if they are being bullied, or if they have witnessed others being bullied, to bring it forward to either an adult or anyone that they think can help them," said Principal Becci Bihn.

The district also has a website where students can anonymously report any bullying.
