Toledo group sending 500,000 meals to Haiti, volunteers needed

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A Toledo organization planning to send 500,000 meals to starving children in Haiti needs help packing the food.

The Million Meal Alliance, a group of churches, schools and community organizations, is hoping to recruit 2,500 volunteers to help pack dehydrated meals. Volunteers must be at least 6 years old. No special skills are required, and training will be provided.

The group plans to pack the meals in the Toledo Christian School gymnasium on October 24, 25 and 26.

Volunteers will be preparing meals of MannaPack Rice, a food blend scientifically designed to save the lives of severely malnourished and starving children, as well as improve the health, growth and physical well-being of children who are no longer in immediate danger of starvation.

"We're excited for the life-changing impact these meals will have, as this may be the only healthy meal some of these children will receive in a day", said David Munn, one of the event co-chairs. "At the same time, it's sobering knowing the need is so great.  We hope this is only the start of an intentional effort across the area community to meet that need on a larger scale."
