BGSU investigates racially-charged ‘tweets’ for second time this year

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

For the second time this year, minority groups at Bowling Green State University say they're being targeted on Twitter with racially insensitive tweets.

Black Student Union President Kevin Lewis says only one word describes what he felt when he saw what he calls racist tweets.

"[I am] shocked that this happened again, because it's only been about five, six months since the first incident," he said.

University officials are still trying to identify who is behind the tweets that say:

"The Black Student Union is a separatist white hating group. Our goal is to kill all whites," and "Fighting the white man with all my friends at BSU #BlackPride #EmbraceTheHate."

"We're really hurt by it," Lewis said. "Really offended."

Officials are trying to determine if a crime has been committed, and they could subpoena Twitter and request the identity of the person behind the tweets.

Lewis says he wants the person responsible to know the following:

"We're an open organization to everyone. We're not here to fight anyone, we're just here to make sure that we have a voice."
