Elmore Mayor Lowell Krumnow passes away at 56

ELMORE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Lowell Krumnow served Elmore as mayor for 22 years. Krumnow died of a brain tumor at his home Sunday evening. He was 56 years old.

Krumnow was first elected mayor in 1992, and had served on council since 1981. Community members say even before his political career began, Krumnow as a supporter of everything Elmore.

"The Portage River Festival. I know he really liked Halloween a lot and so he created the casket races, the tombstone derby," said Jennifer Fording of the Elmore Historical Society. "There's just so many different things that he used to do and he was just right in the middle of everything. Cooking up food for everybody, just walking around, being with the people."

Krumnow had a passion for history, and started the Elmore Historical Society in 1980.

"I think he's touched the lives of pretty much every single person. He was just so charismatic and personable. Always good with a joke, always teasing everybody. He was a very nice man," said Fording.

It is unclear who will take over as mayor following Krumnow's death, but community members say they're focused on morning his loss.
