New Bowling Green program aimed at keeping city clean

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

It's an age old problem for Bowling Green, and many other college towns. How can the city get college students who are just passing through to respect the community they're temporarily living in.

Bowling Green Police received complaints about six separate addresses with trash on the lawn this weekend alone. In most cases, beer cans, bottles and cups are strewn throughout the yard. Bowling Green City Council is looking to a new program to help with the problem.

"One thing we're looking at is forming a neighborhood cleanup campaign. This would essentially be a litter patrol where we send BGSU students out into the neighborhoods and have them help pick up trash and litter broken beer bottles that sort of thing," said City Councilman Daniel Gordon.

The program should be up and running by the end of fall semester.
