Soldier in custody after deadly assault outside Adrian

ADRIAN, MI (Toledo News Now) -

A U.S. soldier is in custody and another man is dead after an apparent assault at a home outside of Adrian Saturday morning.

Michigan State police say they were called to an assault in progress around 8:30am Saturday, where they found a 20-year-old male victim unresponsive on the living room floor.

Troopers say the man was being administered CPR by residents of the home and had obvious ligature marks on his neck.

Troopers also found an 18-year-old man with stab wounds to his shoulder.

The incident happened at the Lee Villa Mobile Home Park northeast of Adrian.

Both victims were taken to the hospital by ambulance, where the man who had been found unresponsive was pronounced dead.

The man who had been stabbed was treated and released.

The suspect, a 31-year-old man, currently on leave from the U.S. Army, is in custody at the Lenawee County Jail.

He was visiting his estranged wife.

Troopers believe the suspect strangled the first victim during the early morning hours and that the second victim was stabbed by the same suspect as he attempted to give first aid to the first victim.

The investigation is ongoing.
