Anthony Wayne Trail Enhancement Project in full swing

MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Phase two of the Anthony Wayne Enhancement Project in Maumee is underway.

The goal of the project is to make the heavily-traveled Anthony Wayne Trail more visually appealing.

Kate Hubbard has lived in Maumee for 13 years, and the Trail is right in her backyard.

"They first started the project in 2005, and they did the other side of the Trail," Hubbard explained. "So for us to finally get it, our yard will look all the nicer."

The current phase of the project removes and replaces old fences on the road.

"With 24 being a main drag coming through, connecting Toledo with Fort Wayne, I think having this white fence makes Maumee more appealing," Hubbard said.

City officials agree, and that's why they decided to continue the $315,000 project.

"The biggest part of the project is going to occur in between the Maumee Indoor Theater parking lot, and extend west along the Anthony Wayne Trail and up to Ford Street," said City Administrator John Jezak.

Drivers on the Trail will likely see orange temporary fences and workers moving the brand new fences in. Hubbard says the change will improve her at-home experience.

"We're hoping that it will create more of a backyard for our family now," she said. "Right now, everyone can see through here…This will make it more private."

The project was postponed due to the recession, but now city officials expect it to be complete by spring.
