College night introduces TPS students to higher education

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo Public Schools hosted an event Wednesday night to give their students an opportunity to check out multiple colleges and look at higher education at a younger age.

Colleges from near and far took over the Scott Park campus to give TPS students a chance to learn about higher education.

This is the third year the district has hosted a college night, and this year, more than 100 colleges were represented.

From learning about loans and the application process to which school fits their desired major, district leaders believe the night was a spark for students to learn as much as they can about education beyond high school.

The college night is mandatory for students in the early college program, but TPS is placing emphasis on going to college as early as elementary school.

"We're putting a huge emphasis in regards to being college and career-ready, understanding that we no longer what our students to go into and having to take remedial courses," said Interim Superintendent Romules Durant. "We want our kids to be ready, but more importantly, understanding that there is a post-secondary option for them, along with the career fields, as well."
