Closed elementary school sold in Ottawa County

OTTAWA COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Benton-Carroll-Salem (BCS) school board officials are working to close a deal on Graytown Elementary School, located off Walker Street in Graytown.

The building and the three acres it sits on will become the property of Northpoint Education Service Center, a group based out of Sandusky. The center plans to open a preschool, and provide training for teachers and academically gifted students, among others.

The school was sold for $8,000, and it's one of three local schools administrators closed over the last few years due to a lack of funding.

Superintendent Guy Parmigian says while the sticker price may seem low, they wanted to make sure the company moving in still met the needs of the students and community.

"There's not a large segment of people out there looking to buy a several-thousand-square-foot building and all that comes with it," Parmigian said. "On the other side of the coin, we are partners in educating our kids. We at BCS feel like we're getting a tremendous benefit by having the close proximity of Northpoint to serve our kids."

The deal is expected to be finalized on Oct. 7. The money from the sale will go in the district's general fund.
