TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Everyyear, the Salvation Army helps thousands of people in the Toledo area have abrighter holiday season.

"Basically,we help out families, singles, seniors – anyone that is in need for the holidayseason for food baskets or toys," explained Harley Maddox, coordinator of theChristmas Clearing Bureau.

PatriciaBitticks is one Toledo resident who appreciates the service.

"It'sreally a blessing because I cook for myself, I have four little grandbabies,"Bitticks said. "It is a wonderful and beautiful thing."

Bittickssays the program ensures her grandchildren will have food and gifts forChristmas.

"Ithink it means everything, because it's definitely hard, and I can understandhow hard it is to be able to provide for a family, knowing you're doing yourbest and still not able to meet that need," Maddox said. "I'm hoping to help asmany families as will come and apply with us…We helped a little over 2,000 lastyear, so we look to increase our numbers this year."
