BBB Alert: Scammers looking to capitalize on iPhone release

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

With demand for the new iPhone 5s and 5c through the roof, many people are looking online to buy the new smart phones.

Dick Eppstein of the Better Business Bureau says while there are many legitimate sellers on the Internet, some scammers are looking to take advantage of the excitement of the new iPhone release.

If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is. Advertised prices much lower than retail price are the first sign of a fraudulent ad.  Bad spelling or grammar is also a good indicator. If a seller will only accept a wire transfer, not credit cards, it could be a scam. Ads posted by scammers often do not have complete information, and will not have a street address or phone number.

Sometimes scammers will try to appeal to your emotions. Craigslist ads with a sad story are often a scam.

Shoppers should also look out for fraudulent security seals on websites.
